Repay a Kindness, Propose a Toast to All
Chou Zhu Gong Jian Guo
Jie yu wei sang,
Ai ci gu sheng.
Bing ju lan tian,
Bao di gong geng.
Sui yan shu shui,
Yi feng zi cheng.
Chen wang dong gao,
Cao lu wei xi.
Mu kan yan huo,
Fu dan lai gui.
Wo wen you ke,
Zu sao jing fei.
Dan shi yi he?
Fu gua zhua zao.
Yang ce qun xian,
Po ran yi lao.
Kui wu quan dian,
Ban jing xi gao.
Fan fan deng bei,
Zhe bi he hua.
Jing guan su wei,
Fu ying bai sha.
Shan niao qun fei,
Ri yin qing xia.
Deng che chang ma,
Shu hu you san.
Que zao huang cun,
Ji ming kong guan.
Huan fu you du,
Chong xi lei tan.
Repay a Kindness, Propose a Toast to All
Remaining lament not yet gone
Grief in this lonely life.
Living and waiting in Lantian
Stooping to cultivate the thin soil.
To pay taxes during retirement years
Make believe that the ladle is full.
Toward the east, morning sky brightens
Green grasses not yet dry.
By sunset see smoke and fires
Carrying a shoulder pole, arrive at home.
I hear there is a visitor
Kick aside the bushes around door leaves.
Who is that with the round bamboo basket?
Grab a melon gourd full of dates.
Rely on the involvement with you
One white-haired old man.
Ashamed by not having rich meat and a bamboo mat
(One is interwoven with multiple colors).
Coming ashore in a shallow pond
Snapping off lotus flowers.
White sturgeon in the clean water at the Daoist temple
Bending down to see reflections in the white sand.
Flock of mountain birds fly
Sun concealed in wispy sunrise clouds.
Swiftly mount the horse
Not noticing the rain has stopped.
Sparrows chirping around the isolated village
Roosters crow in the emptiness.
By myself, return to seclusion
Repeating sobs, continuous sighs.
Notes:
Lantian: A prefecture in the Southern Mountains, near the capital Chang’an.
A place of rural seclusion of Wang Wei where his vacation house and land were located.
