Tone-Filled Melodies and Words: Two Poems
Mongolian horses, nomadic horses
Distant and free under Mt. Yan.
Run in the sand, gallop and neigh in the snow
Gaze into the eastern distance, gaze into the distant west, they travel on enchanted highways.
Lost from this highway, lost from that highway, roads lost and disappeared
The sun setting on border grassy plains without limits.
Milky Way, Milky Way
Daybreak skies, stars hung over autumn city walls.
Anxious people arise, gaze into the distance thinking of hometown family and friends
Far apart this northern border stronghold and the Jiangnan.
Leave and depart, depart and leaving farewells
Although the Milky Way and earthly highways have been separated.
Notes:
Mt. Yan: Mountain range in Hebei Province.
Jiangnan: Literally means the area south of the river. The river is the Changjiang (Yangzi River) in modern day Zhejiang Province.
