Old Man in the Open Country

Ye Lao

Ye lao li bian jiang an hui
Chai men bu zheng zhu jiang kai.

Gu ke chuan sui fan zhao lai.

Chang lu guan xin bei jian ge
Pian yun he yi bang qin tai.

Cheng que qiu sheng hua jue ai.

Old Man Open in the Open Country

Old country fence surrounds our riverside house
Relocated our front door from normally facing the river to the road.
Fishermen nets placed near the inlet for the clear and deep pools below
After selling their catch in town, they return with the reflected setting sun.

Long highways closed, how can my sad heart-mind visit guarded hometown pavilions
Against my intent, I was blown like the clouds to this secluded place.
Imperial forces have yet to secure the city of Luoyang
From our city wall, autumn winds express louder the sorrows and battle horns.
