Xin Ting Song Ke

Liu zhao qi shi fa xun xian
Wei di jing shi bu yan ran?
Bo bi zhi ren tian yi xiao
Chu qiu cun qi hou qian nian.

Zhong shan huan ke chang nan wang
Jiang shui li ren lan bei huan.
Qiang guan xing wan tan bu jin
Wang jiao yin sha xi yang chan.

Six times an imperial palace, a place not lacking the able and virtuous
Why is our capital city not enjoying good times today?
Soldiers fighting behind walls have no honor or joy
Villages after a thousand years mourn the same feelings.

Mountain bells call out to southern visitors who cannot go home
Remaining here along this river they are too comfortable to travel north.
Too many contentious discussions trying to plot our redemption
Like the cicadas facing their eventual demise, chanting about their fates.
