Western Villages
Deep within the mountains, during chaotic times lives the younger Tao Yuanming
With a door bolted and secure, he sought the type of wine from former years.
A spreading stand of tall willow trees, and a bridge where the initial change of horses occurs
Numerous houses appear near the water, a natural place for a village.
Lush forest and winds to send off the sounds of birds in seclusion
Drunk-induced black ink marks encroach upon a mossy and broken-down wall.
One supremely clear poem recalls today’s sunset
New moon, thin clouds a brilliant orange at dusk.
Tao Yuanimg: Famous Eastern Jin Dynasty poet and government official. His work and biography can also be found on this website.
