With the Emperor’s Brother Qiwang, Visit Yangshi’s Country Home
Yangshi talks about his book of Yi Qing annotations
Like Emperor Wang, he carried the wine for our visit.
Elation draws to an end, as the bird cries have changed
Sitting for a long time, a lot of fallen flowers.
Coming back around a turn in the pathway, the silver candlesticks lit
Forest opens out, the jade-like bridles come loose.
Closed city wall gates, not yet time for them to open
Ahead on the road, the attendants gathered around, playing musical instruments and singing songs.
Notes:
Yi Qing: (aka the I Ching) The Book of Changes
Emperor Wang: Like Emperor Huai of the Western Han dynasty period (206 BC-25 AD), he was renowned for his keen intellect and desire to hear all sides of a debate before making a decision.
Bird cries: From the songs of birds in the morning, compared to those you hear at sunset.
