With Tong Cao San, Imperial Historian, Traveling Across a Lake

With the arrival of autumn comes the promotion of poetry
Sichuan so cool, lakeside singers are rare.
Journey together on this lake, time to drop anchor
Composing alternate lines of poetry, we are missing home.

You have written for me an unsuccessful letter of introduction
Blue skies and river islets, clean the worldly dust from my clothes.
Far away and lofty thoughts deep as the clouds and ocean
Who doesn’t want to join the flying geese?

Notes:

Tong Cao San:  (155-220 AD) The penultimate Grand Chancellor of the Eastern Han Dynasty. His poetic remarks were added to “The Art of War” by Sunzi.
