Evening Crows Need to Caw
They return late in the evening to the city walls
Throughout the night my front courtyard not a safe place to be.
Moonlight through leafless trees
Wind-blown branches slippery with frost.
Their hungry throats hoarse from calling out
Frozen wings hang down on only the lower branches.
Inside the painted main hall, parrots caged inside
Not aware of the changes in outside temperatures.
