Yang Wanli: Pass By Mt. Xi

Pass By Mt. Xi

Guo Xi Shan

Yi nian liang ta xi shan lu
Xi shan xiao ren ying jie yu.
Xiong zhong bai hu zhu mo chen
Yu jian zhu lian wu ban ju.

Yin qin mai jiu xie xi shan
Can kui shan guang kai wo yan.
Bin si hun wei cui ke bai
Chen ai man xiong du huang xi?

Pass By Mt. Xi

In one year walked two times on the road to Mt. Xi
Use of words dissipate for the happy people near Mt. Xi.
I got payments of over 28 bushels for my loyalty preparing documents that used red ink
During rain with scrolled up beaded curtains, can only write half-baked lines.

For you Mt. Xi, I am eager to buy the best wine
With some shame I face your smooth and lightened peaks.
My white temple hair from the foolish and hurried imperial exams
The people’s hearts-minds full of grief throughout their lives, can they ever find value in leisure?

Notes:

Mt. Xi: Located in the province of Jiangxi.

Used red ink: In the making of important seals for government documents.
