Notes:
Lingyan: A traditional pavilion in the southwest part of the Taiji Palace inside the ancient city of Chang’an (now Xi’An). In March of 643, emperor Taizong commissioned life-size portraits of twenty-four heroes to commemorate their service to the country. All but one was a duke, and most were generals as well.
