Long For Embroidered Quilts
Lian Xiu Qin
Bu xi diao qiu huan diao peng
Jie shi ren, shei shi fang weng?
Gui zhao jie qiao feng wen
Shu sheng wen, lin wai mu zhong.
You qi mo xiao wo lu xiao
You yun shan, yan shui wan chong.
Ban shi xiang dan qing kan
Xi ru jin, sheng zai hua zhong.
Long For Embroidered Quilts
Do not value a position of those wearing ermine coats
Easily exchange them for a fishing canopy
Poor people outside, who knows this free old man?
Put away the oars
To gather firewood walk against the steady winds.
Coming home with the wind
Count the sounds, outside are the forest bells at sunset.
Life in seclusion, everyone laughs at my small hut built for snails
But I have thousands of cloudy mountains and misty rivers.
This second half of life spent painting pictures
Enjoying my todays, living the life of being inside these paintings.
Notes:
Lu built his hut, and then a larger, more permanent house on the land given to He Zhizhang.
He Zhizhang: (659-744 AD): Poet and scholar of the early Tang Dynasty. His most famous poem is called “Coming Home”. He was given this plot of land by emperor Xuanzong to enjoy in his Daoist retirement years. Lu Yu is now enjoying it too.
