In Southern Yan a strong scholar, then a Wu man, rich and powerful
Playing his zhu while a knife was embedded and hidden inside a fish.
Grateful for your kindness, promise to repay you at some time
Large mountains, my life insignificant compared to trivial things.
Notes:
Southern Yan: (398-410) A short-lived state during the 16 Kingdoms period. It was located in and around modern day Shandong Province.
Wu man: The Wu state and region centers around the current province of Zhejiang and Jiangsu.
Zhu: An ancient 13-stringed musical instrument played by striking the strings with a light bamboo stick.
