Evening Third Day of the Sixth Lunar Month Listening to Cicadas
Liu Yue San Ri Ye Wen Chan
He xiang qing lu zhui
Liu dong hao feng sheng.
Wei yue chu san ye
Xin chan di yi sheng.
Zha wen chou bei ke
Jing ting yi dong jing.
Wo you zhu lin zhai
Bie lai chan zai ming.
Bu zhi chi shang yue
Shei bo xiao chuan xing?
Evening Third Day of the Sixth Lunar Month Listening to Cicadas
Fragrant lotus, clear dew falls
Fine breezes emerge, willow trees move.
Third evening of the new month, the moon begins to crescent
New cicadas first make their sounds.
First heard their melancholy here for this northern visitor
While quietly listening, memories of the eastern capital.
I have a bamboo forest around my family home
After my departure, cicadas again singing.
Not aware of the moon now upon the ponds
Who can turn around this small boat to travel back home?
