Du Fu: Reflected Light

Reflected Light

Fan Zhao

Chu wang gong bei zheng huang jie
Bai di cheng xi guo yu hen.
Fan zhao jiu jiang fan shi bi
Gui yun yong shu shi shan cun.

Shuai nian fei bing wei gao zhen
Jue sai chou shi zao bi men.
Bu ke jiu liu chai hu luan
Nan fang shi you wei zhao hun.

Reflected Light

North of the Chu imperial palace at sunset
Passed by west of Baidi city after a light rainfall.
Reflected sunlight falls upon the river surface and rock cliffs
Returning clouds embrace the trees to hide among the mountain villages.

Aging and sick lungs require a stack of propped up pillows
Near a remote border stronghold, melancholy times, close the door early.
Cannot remain here for a long time with the chaos of jackals and tigers
These southern regions actually have yet to have inviting spirits.
