At Hushang, Wrote and Gave This Poem to Zhangxian For an Opportunity to Hear Him Play the Zheng:(River City)
江 城 子：湖 上 与 张 先 同 赋，时 闻 弹 筝
凤 凰 山 下 雨 初 晴
水 风 清 晚 霞 明。
一 朵 芙 蕖
开 过 尚 盈 盈。
何 处 飞 来 白 鹭？
如 有 意 慕 娉 婷。
忽 闻 江 上 弄 哀 筝
苦 含 情 谴 谁 听？
烟 敛 云 收
依 约 是 湘 灵。
欲 待 曲 终 灵 问 取
人 不 见 数 峰 青。

Feng huang shan xia you chu qing
Shui feng qing wan xia ming.
Yi duo fu qu
Kai guo shang ying ying.
He chu fei lai shuang bai lu?
Ru you yi mu ping ting.
Hu wen jiang shang nong ai zheng
Ku han qing qian shei ting?
Yan lian yun shou
Yi yue shi xiang ling
Yu dai qu zhong ling wen qu
Ren bu jian shu feng qing.

Fenghuang Mountain, sunny skies begin after the rainfall
Wind on the water quiet, late afternoon brightness.
One lotus flower opens up
A translucent treasure on full display.
Where did this pair of white egrets fly in from?
Like having a wish, admire and yearn for their natural grace.
Suddenly I hear on the river, gushing and playing a mournful song
Who can listen, then dispel these bitter emotions?
Mists gather together into clouds
This music like that of the Xiang River water spirits.
When the music stops, I want to see who are the musicians
But they have disappeared, see only several green mountain peaks.
Notes:
Hushang: A city located in Fujian Province.
Zheng: Ancient Chinese stringed musical instrument. See guzheng.
Fenghuang: Yellow phoenix mountain. Perhaps the one located in Hunan Province. There are at least four others in China.
Xiang River: A very large tributary to the Changjiang. (Yangzi River)
